One of two people found dead in Atlanta house identified

The identity of one of the two bodies found in a northwest Atlanta house Friday was released Saturday evening. The Fulton medical examiner’s office identified one of the two as Heather Camp, 33, of Canton. The identity of the second person was not available.

Earlier Saturday Atlanta police used cadaver dogs but found no additional bodies during a search of the house where the two were found Friday afternoon inside the house in the 1700 block of Madrona Street in northwest Atlanta.

Friday police responding to a person down call discovered a body in a back room of the house around 1:15 p.m. The second body was discovered in a closet in the back room as police were investigating the house.

Police said Friday they believed the first victim, a woman likely around 30 years of age, was murdered. The second was so decomposed that investigators could not determine an approximate age nor positively identify the victim’s sex, according to Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee.

“There are suspicious circumstances surrounding this death. We are very concerned about what we have found,” Atlanta Police Capt. Paul Guerrucci said Friday regarding the first body. He declined to discuss the circumstances that raised suspicions.

“I don’t believe it is going to be a random act,” he said.

Channel 2 Action News asked detectives how the bodies could go unnoticed for such a long time.

“The body was badly decomposed, but the house, in general, was not in good order. There appears to be people living in the house. There’s no running water or electricity, so it looks like they might be squatting in the house,” Guerrucci told the station Friday.

Neighbors Larry and Linda Powers told Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes there are never any lights on and people constantly go in and out.

“Unfortunately there’s a lot of wrong activity over there and the door won’t lock,” said Larry Powers. “It’s basically easy for people to come in and out.”
