According to Southern Living magazine's "The South's Best" awards, not one — but two — Georgia cities made the list of the best cities in the region.

Based on more than 22,000 online reader surveys, the popular Southern culture magazine created its first-ever listing for the best-loved places in 13 different categories.

Both Savannah and Atlanta made the list of 10 cities, ranking No. 2 and No. 6, respectively.

When it comes to Atlanta, Southern Living added, “There’s no city that exemplifies the new South better and rivals cities like New York and San Francisco in innovative city planning, green spaces, and food.”

Georgia also earned recognition in the magazine’s other South’s Best Awards categories.

Southern Soul on St. Simons Island won the pick for the best barbecue in the region and Atlanta's Fox Bros. BBQ made the list at No. 3.

Two Georgia shops also made the cut for the best shops category, with Savannah's the Paris Market and Brocante topping the list.
