Nate has been downgraded to a tropical depression, but rain in metro Atlanta is expected through evening, meteorologists say.

Hurricane Nate made landfall in Louisiana twice since Saturday night and flooded parts of the state, but the storm has since weakened, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

As a precaution, Delta Air Lines canceled flights.

The airline waived certain change fees for passengers with flights booked to, from or through Destin and Pensacola, Fla.; New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette, La.; Birmingham, Montgomery, Huntsville and Mobile, Ala.; or Gulfport, Columbus and Jackson, Miss Oct. 6-9 who want to change their travel plans.

In the North Georgia mountains, 2 to 4 inches off rain can be expected along with wind gusts. Heavy rain fell in Cobb and Cherokee counties shortly before 11 a.m. and flooding was reported in Marietta near Church Street, Channel 2 reported.

There is an isolated chance of tornadoes, Monahan said.

Wind has the possibility to knock down trees and knock out power, but the severity of the wind gusts will be nothing like we saw with Irma, Monahan said.

“This is not going to be a hard hit to North Georgia like we saw with Irma a few weeks ago,” Monahan said.

The high for the day is 78 degrees and Monahan said metro Atlantans should expect humid conditions.

And we’ll be back in the 80s on Monday and through the week.

The rain that arrived Sunday with Nate is expected to continue through Monday and a 30 to 40 percent chance of rain continues through Wednesday. Rain chances drop to 20 percent on Thursday, Channel 2 reported.
