Smyrna will replace Fire Station 2, its oldest station. The Smyrna City Council voted 5-1-1 Monday to award the contract to the lowest bidder, BM&K Construction Inc., for $2,720,872.

The station will be located at its present site at 642 Concord Road. Built in the 1970s, the current station has an apparatus bay that will not accommodate the trucks in service.

The new building will have a full-size pull through with a driveway to the right for the equipment. Upgrades will include male and female restrooms and a day room.

Councilwoman Susan Wilkinson was opposed and Councilman Corky Welsh was absent. In favor were Councilwomen Teri Anulewicz and Andrea Blustein and Councilmen Ron Fennel, Derek Norton and Doug Stoner.
