Part of Buford Highway south of Beverly Hills Drive in Chamblee will be closed through Wednesday night for emergency repairs, officials said.

The road has severe erosion, Chamblee police spokesman Capt. Ernesto Ford said in an email Tuesday.

“This closure is expected to last for a minimum of 24 hours as repair crews begin their work,” Ford said.

Additionally, Buford Highway will close at some point to traffic at Beverly Hills Drive and Shallowford Terrace, he said.

Plan to use I-85 and Shallowford Road as alternate routes in the area.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
