Gwinnett County fire officials were investigating an early morning fire at an InTown Suites Sunday after a man was found dead.

Only smoke remained in the ground-floor room at 2:14 a.m. when firefighters arrived to the Suwanee location on Celebration Drive, Gwinnett fire spokesman Charles Wells said in a news release. The sprinkler system extinguished the fire.

A man was rescued from the room, assessed and pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.

All other guests of the extended stay motel were allowed to return to their rooms after about a 45-minute precautionary evacuation, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The damage was contained to the one room and no other injuries were reported, Wells said.

Investigators have not yet been able to determine the manner of the man’s death nor the exact place the fire started.
