Snow on the roads in Atlanta made travel difficult Wednesday.

An Atlanta police officer was released from the hospital Thursday after being struck by a car Wednesday morning on the ice-slicked roads near Lenox Square mall.

The officer, Kwaneeta Smith, was hit in the median of Lenox Road — where she was working a previous accident — by a parked SUV that was hit by another vehicle turning from the exit ramp off Ga. 400, an APD spokesman said.

“The white SUV then slid into the officer, knocking her to the ground,” APD spokesman Officer Donald Hannah said. “The officer was able to get on her radio briefly before a witness came to her aid, took her radio and called for help.”

Smith was treated and released from Grady Memorial Hospital, police spokeswoman Stephanie Brown said Thursday.

Smith has been with APD since December 2010 and is assigned to field operations and mobile patrol.

The driver of the vehicle that caused the accident was cited for failing to maintain lane, according to APD.
