A 38-year-old man was arrested after a Saturday shooting in northwest Atlanta, police say.

Brian Ellis faces aggravated assault, reckless conduct, DUI and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony charges related to the shooting of 53-year-old Kenneth Irby, Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. John Chafee said.

But Ellis is also charged with cruelty to children.

“That charge is not explained in the information I have at this time,” Chafee told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Irby was shot at 1142 James Jackson Parkway about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

A second shooting in northwest Atlanta was reported hours later at 1482 Monteel Drive, police said.

Irby was hit in the hip and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, Chafee said.

Witnesses told police where Ellis was and Ellis was arrested without incident, Chafee said.

Ellis remains in the Fulton County jail.
