A 32-year-old man faces a murder charge in connection with a shooting in Walton County Sunday morning, officials say.

Jonathan Rajiv Gresham of Monroe was shot multiple times in front of three people who told police Gresham was their uncle, the Social Circle Police Department said in a news release.

The shooting happened after an alleged verbal argument between 27-year-old Gresham and Keith Malcom.

The two men were outside a residence in the 600 block of Meadows Lane in Social Circle when shots were fired, police said.

After the shooting, police stopped a car with Gresham inside and he was taken to Clearview Regional Hospital, where he later died, police said.

Malcom was charged with aggravated assault, murder, four counts of cruelty to children, possession of a firearm during a commission of a crime, possession of firearm by a convicted felon and possession of schedule 1 drugs with intent to distribute.

He was booked into the Walton County jail.

An investigation is ongoing.

Walton County is about 50 miles east of Atlanta.
