A Stephens County High School varsity football player died Friday, one week after a car wreck that killed three other teenage passengers.

Kainan Green, 17, of Toccoa, was hospitalized in critical condition after the June 30 crash, Now Habersham reported.

Stephens County is about 96 miles northeast of Atlanta.

Teammate Eli Alexander was killed in the crash along with 16-year-old Kennedy Wright and 18-year-old Tristen Helton, the newspaper reported.

Family and friends created Facebook pages dedicated to Green and Alexander's family set up a scholarship in his memory.

Alexander’s aunt, Angie Alexander Myers, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the teammates were best friends.

“We loved (Green) as if he was family,” Myers said. “We, as well as the whole community, had to endure Eli's funeral last Wednesday while simultaneously hoping that Kainan would miraculously pull through.”
