A Gwinnett County woman died Thursday after authorities say she was shot in the eye at a South Carolina gun range.

Sarah Bonner, 24, of Lawrenceville, was shot Monday while she and members of her family were at the Skip-J Range in Anderson, S.C., Coronor Greg Shore told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Shore said the bullet went through Bonner’s eye and was lodged in her brain. She was taken to AnMed Health Medical, where she later died.

The shooting, Shore said, is believed to be accidental. An autopsy was completed after Bonner’s organs were donated and authorities were able to retrieve the bullet.

Shore said officials were working to match the bullet with the gun used in the shooting.

Bonner's friends started a GoFundMe account to raise money to establish a scholarship in her name for people interested in a career in radiology. Bonner had returned to school this year with plans to pursue a career in that field.

As of Thursday afternoon, more than $4,500 was raised out of a goal of $10,000.
