Gwinnett County Public Schools will remain closed Tuesday as Tropical Storm Irma makes its way through Georgia, the district announced Monday afternoon.

The closure is “due to the threat of severe weather,” spokeswoman Sloan Roach said. Schools did not open Monday in anticipation of the storm.

The tropical storm is anticipated to result in 3 to 5 inches of rain in Gwinnett County and bring winds up to 40 miles per hour.
