February may be the next chance for truly cold air, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan says.

The warm air is a welcome change for many who spent the latter part of the work week home after businesses and schools closed for snow cleanup. The dangerously cold temperatures made icy roads hazardous and led to widespread cabin fever.

But that’s over now and for the foreseeable future.

Temperatures were near and in some areas above average Sunday morning, Channel 2 reported.

“It’s going to be a warm day,” Monahan said. “The average is 52 and we’ll hit 66 degrees today.”

Currently it is 68 degrees in Atlanta.

Athens hit 71 degrees and Carrollton, Rome and Calhoun all hit 70, Channel 2 reported.

Most of Monday will be dry, but there is a 60 percent chance of evening showers that will clear overnight and leave skies on Tuesday cloudy with a 30 percent of rain.

Temperatures are expected to be in the 50s and higher all week.
