Fulton County government offices will remain closed on Thursday.

In a statement, the county said the decision was made due to freezing temperatures and icy road conditions.

The closure affects courts in the Atlanta Judicial Circuit, and jurors should not report for duty. In addition to government offices, libraries, health centers and arts centers will be closed in the county.

Other than public safety employees and other essential personnel, employees should not report to work.

The county transportation crews will be treating roads and bridges in the city of South Fulton and the Fulton Industrial District. Residents are asked to limit travel if possible.

County offices were also closed Wednesday, due to the weather.

College Park will open its city hall at 10 a.m., two hours later than normal.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
