A Whitewater High School DECA Club member has qualified to compete in the Virtual Business Challenge finals at the DECA International Career and Development Conference in Anaheim, California in April. Glenn MacDonald competed in the retailing track of the challenge, taking first place in Georgia and sixth place in the nation. In the Virtual Business Challenge, participants use visual simulation software to manage a business, testing their skills against other students across the United States. Participants manage pricing, staffing, merchandising, market research, and promotion and are ranked based on their store's cumulative profit after running the simulation for one virtual year. MacDonald and others at the international conference will play the live simulation in front of an audience in a double-elimination tournament where participants compete for a grand prize of $1,000 plus $6,000 to cover their airfare and hotel expenses.
