Three students at Westlake High School in South Fulton won’t pay a cent for college tuition after collectively winning almost $600,000 in scholarships.

The three were named Posse Scholars by the Posse Foundation. Abdullah Robins will receive $199,600 to attend Boston University. Owen Manning will receive $207,800 to attend George Washington University. Xavier Maldonado will receive $192,000 to attend Texas A&M University.

Since 1989, the Posse Foundation has awarded more than $930 million in scholarships to almost 7,000 students. It looks for students with “demonstrated leadership ability, communication and team building skills” who “may not have considered, or may have been overlooked by top colleges,” according to its website.

In addition to the funds, Posse Scholars receive pre-college training, a “posse” of peers at their university, staff support during college and career coaching and workshops. Ninety percent of Posse Scholars graduate college.
