The state Department of Education today released the results of the 2017 Milestones tests, given to public school students in elementary school through high school each spring.

The AJC data folks are doing some deep dives into the data, including identifying the highest scoring middle schools in math in metro Atlanta. Nine of the top 10 are in Cobb and Fulton.

The scores are based on the percentage of test takers who scored at the two highest levels, proficient or distinguished. For comparison, only 41 percent of eighth graders statewide scored at proficient or higher.

Here is the list:

Dodgen Middle School, Cobb, 84.3

Dickerson Middle School, Cobb 83.2

River Trail Middle School, Fulton 78.3

Hightower Trail Middle, Cobb 77.6
