An Atlanta school board candidate learned Wednesday that he won’t proceed to a Dec. 5 runoff election.

Unofficial tallies after the Nov. 7 election had John Wright squeaking into second place in the race for the at-large District 7 post on the Atlanta Board of Education. But his nine-vote cushion faded away, and official results from DeKalb and Fulton counties show he lost to Patricia Crayton by 27 votes.

That sets up a runoff between Crayton and top vote-getter Kandis Wood Jackson.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
