The Atlanta school district has not increased its tax rate. But because of rising property assessments, many property owners will see higher tax bills this year.

If your property’s value has increased, you’ll get a bigger school tax bill. If it hasn’t, your school taxes won’t increase.

APS’ millage rate of 21.64 mills has not changed since 2008. But rising property values mean the tax cost will effectively increase by 1.9 mills.

The proposed tax bill for a home now valued at $100,000 will rise by about $19. The proposed increase for non-homestead property valued at $300,000 will be about $228.

Atlanta Public Schools will hold a series of public hearings on the higher taxes, as required by state law.

The hearings will be held on June 26 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and July 6 at 9 a.m. at 130 Trinity Ave.
