A former Hall County day-care worker was convicted Thursday in the 2014 case of a toddler who authorities say was burned while in her care.

Eddye Pittman was found guilty in Hall County Circuit Court of first-degree and second-degree cruelty to a child, Channel 2 Action News reported. The jury also found her guilty of two counts of misdemeanor battery. Pittman is awaiting sentencing.

Pittman and another worker at the now-closed Discovering Basics day-care center were accussed of not seeking the proper medical treatment after the 16-month-old boy was burned while he was in their care.

The boy, Damon Gaddis, suffered burns to his stomach and left leg, though the day-care workers said the burns may have been on the child before he arrived at the center. Early in the investigation authorities told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution they were not contending the boy was burned intentionally.

Pittman and her co-worker, Tara Miller, put ointment on the burns but did not get Tara more immediate and advanced medical treatment, the authorities said.
