Butch Soles is a Physical Education Teacher at Arbor Station Elementary School. He is currently in his 23rd year of teaching physical education at Arbor Station. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Health from West George College, a Master’s degree in Early Childhood from Piedmont College, and an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Planning from Piedmont College.

Despite his multiple degrees, education did not always come easily to Butch. However, at a young age he realized his connection with school came from sports, as a student athlete. Sports became his passion and he learned many life lessons through them. He attributes those lessons to Coach Buford, Coach Dennis, Coach Droke, and Ms. Bryson, who served as his mentors and inspired him by the time they spent molding him into the man and educator he is today.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is proud to announce a new community recognition program – the AJC Celebrating Teachers Awards. We believe the very best of the best are worth honoring and giving them the recognition they deserve. This will be a moment of significant pride for the honoree, their family and school.
