A hotel security guard was shot several times and left in critical condition Thursday at a Gwinnett County extended-stay hotel, police said.

Officers responded to a resident’s call at 5:32 a.m. in the 2200 block of Pelican Drive in Norcross.

“The resident stated that a security guard for the business had been shot multiple times in the hallway of the hotel,” Gwinnett Police Department Cpl. Collin Flynn said. “When officers responded to the scene, they located the victim and he was immediately transported to the hospital.”

The victim, identified by police as William Hudson, 46, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center-Lawrenceville, “where he’s currently undergoing surgery and is considered in critical condition,” Gwinnett Cpl. Benjamin Finney said.

Police are seeking Xavier Geder, 32, in connection with the incident, Flynn said later Thursday. There are active warrants on Geder for aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

The motive for the incident is still being investigated, Flynn said.

A SWAT team was earlier deployed to the back of the complex to make sure the area was secure for detectives and residents.
