A man accused of sodomizing a woman after she walked her child to the bus was arrested Thursday in Atlanta.

“The victim stated she walked her child to the bus from her apartment, which she left unlocked,” Atlanta police spokesman Donald Hannah said. “When she returned to her apartment, the suspect was waiting for her.”

Demarcus West was arrested about 6 a.m. at a house on Memorial Drive, nearly three months after the Oct. 7 incident.

It is unclear if he is the same person accused of raping a juvenile and three women in the Mechanicsville area, Atlanta police said.

“We will of course investigate a possible connection, but this is two separate cases for now,” Hannah said.

In the Mechanicsville incident, police are still searching for the man who targeted women with a revolver. Three of the rapes occurred over the past few weeks, police said. The first rape occurred in January 2016, authorities said.

Police did not provide a possible motive as to why the man waited nearly a year between rapes.

Maj. Adam Lee III said the location, the gun and the description of the man led them to think he was connected to all four incidents.
