Traditional style for a modern family in Buckhead

Evie Johnson bought her four-bedroom, six-bathroom Buckhead home in 2015. The renovated home, built in 1938, will be featured in the Cathedral Antiques Show Tour of Homes on Feb. 12.

Transoms and painted walls update the interiors of the 1938 home. Rugs add pattern and comfort to the hardwood floors.

With an arched doorway, a touch that Evie Johnson says adds charm to the Buckhead home, the home's fresh classic style shines. A rug from Keivan Woven Arts pads the hall of the foyer.

A rug from Keivan Woven Arts covers the dark wood floors in the living room. The light rug and neutral furniture form a backdrop for calm accents of lavender, including botanical prints on the walls, throughout the room.

In 2015, Johnson worked with architect William B. Litchfield and contractor Curtis Carden to renovate and redesign her Buckhead home. In the family room, she added two small windows on either side of the fireplace to bring in more natural light, then placed bookshelves beneath the windows for storage.

An old church door that belonged toJohnson's mother complements the rustic texture of the exposed wood ceiling beams in the family room. The couch and chairs are custom pieces from Bungalow.

Evie Johnson brought the dramatic chandelier that hangs in her Buckhead dining room with her when she moved from San Francisco. The antique dining table, selected by interior designer Jacquelynne P. Lanham, pairs with chairs from A. Tyner Antiques. A silver tea set, which once belonged to Johnson's mother, polishes off the light-filled room's traditional decor.

A narrow oak farmhouse table, which homeowner Evie Johnson found at Provenance Antiques, makes it easy for the family to come together and talk at mealtimes in what she calls "a lofty space" in her Buckhead home.

A trunk functions not only as a coffee table but, together with another trunk found in the family room, as a link to Johnson's family history. Through coincidence and luck, one trunk has her grandmother's and great-grandmother's initials on it, while the other has her their names on it, though neither are heirlooms. The starburst mirror above the fireplace adds a touch of black to the decor, an element Johnson usually tries to incorporate.

French doors open the family room to a dining area. The Buckhead home will be featured in the Cathedral Antiques Show Tour of Homes on Feb. 12.

Custom brushed metal pendants from Ironware over the kitchen island complement the room's open and airy design. Stools from Ballard Designs inject a rustic element.

The bar, with a mirrored backsplash and light wood cabinets and shelves, sits just off the butler's pantry.

The bar area is especially handy when entertaining. Decanters from B. D. Jefferies double as pitchers and flower vases. Red branches, cut from from a red maple, rise up from the decanters to show team spirit for the Atlanta Falcons.

Architect William B. Litchfield designed the staircase railings to add visual interest to the space. Johnson also placed several window seats throughout her home, which was renovated in 2015.

Spindle beds give an upstairs bedroom a classic style. The Currey & Co. wall sconces and Native American-themed art were selected by interior designer Jacquelynne P. Lanham.

An archway in 7-year-old Lila's bedroom gives access to the playroom. The curved dresser give the space a feminine polish, while her bed, from Cottage & Bungalow has an antique cottage appeal.

A playroom off of young Lila's bedroom gives her a space all her own. The playroom was added when the home was recently gutted and renovated.

The upstairs guest room is also an office space, with a desk from A. Tyner Antiques and a pull-out bed.

Curtains by interior designer Jacquelynne P. Lanham surround the four-poster bed in the master suite. The seating area by the window is outfitted with recently recovered club chairs and a custom ottoman.

The spa-like master bathroom gets its vintage flair from large light fixtures, a mirrored wall and a mirrored cabinet from the 1920s.

The side entry is stylish and functional. Hooks and cabinets make the space a great mudroom, and shiplap gives it cottage charm. Bell jar light fixtures and a vintage pizza paddle complete the look.
