Three years ago, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution launched Living Intown, a glossy, high-end magazine for readers who live inside the I-285 perimeter.

Investing in new print products in this day and age is a bold move. But after the first issue of Living Intown rolled out in September 2013, it was clear we were onto something.

Readers and advertisers were drawn to the rich photography and the bold design. Interest extended far beyond that small slice of Atlanta – I knew that by the phone calls, emails and the number of magazines I was mailing to readers in places like Alpharetta, Marietta and Douglasville.

Thanks to the creative talent we recruited and the lifeblood of advertising support, Living Intown enjoyed sustained success far beyond our fingers-crossed projections. It even won an international award as one of the best new print products in the world.

So, what did we do? We launched a second magazine using the same formula, Living Northside.

Another success story.

Today, we’re rolling out yet another magazine.

Only this time, we’re extending our reach to all of our Sunday home-delivery subscribers with Travel, a lush and colorful 102-page magazine that we hope you will embrace with the enthusiasm our first two magazines have enjoyed.

We’ll treat you to the exotic.

Take a trip to the Mideast for a dining excursion in Dubai. Former AJC food writer John Kessler eats his way across this dazzling metropolis in the desert and writes about it like only he can.

Says Kessler, “I knew to follow my first rule of successful tourism: make dinner reservations. Or, more precisely, make a couple of reservations, go off on a few half-cocked food quests, and be prepared to drop everything to follow a tip.”

Naturally, the results are as fascinating as they are mouth-watering.

Then there’s Iceland, which offers Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa where tourists wear swimsuits to bask in this natural hot tub large enough to be one of the country’s biggest attractions.

And, if you can go to Iceland to get warm, you can go to Hawaii to cool off. Think the nation’s 50th state is all palm trees, pineapples and tropical beaches? Think again. We’ll take you up the volcanic slopes of Mauna Kea to the 13,976-foot-summit where you’ll need a parka while you trudge through the snow – yes, snow.

By the way, while you’re perusing that article, feel free to sign up to win a trip to Hawaii.

Closer to home, you can tour the must-see places in southern Utah in our eye-popping six-page gatefold, which offers you a blueprint and Insider Tips for taking in scenic canyons and awe-inspiring views. The state offers a rich array of national parks and monuments, such as Zion Canyon National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and Arches National Park.

You can also sip your way through the Napa Valley in California and take a 444-mile bike ride on the Natchez Trace from Nashville through the Mississippi backwoods.

Got time and money only for a trip that’s only a day’s drive from metro Atlanta? We have four trips to places you think you know, but have features you may have missed. Come along for a personal tour through the northeast Georgia mountains, where you’ll find shops and churches that date back to the 19th century.

Have you been to Nashville and skipped Opryland? The Music City offers a tune or two off the beaten path that will make a fascinating vacation for the family. Like the water? Try Fairhope, Ala., elegantly nestled on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay or the Greyfield Inn on Georgia’s Cumberland Island.

You can have a little fun, too. Test your travel knowledge with our illustrated travel quiz.

There’s more.

You won’t have to carry the magazine with you everywhere you go (though that’s a nice thought if you did) to take in our sweeping travel production. As a subscriber, you’ll have access to an array of bonus Travel content on myAJC.com.

The engaging digital presentations will offer additional photos and videos. These destinations are brought to life in the digital space through the vivid visual extras. You’ll get the added convenience of clickable links that will take you directly to the websites for all of the locations we mention.

So take some time out and take a leisurely stroll through some of the most interesting destinations in the U.S and around the world. Each trip comes with Insider Tips for things to do, as well as suggestions for places to stay and eat.

Bon Voyage!
