Another wave of showers hit metro Atlanta and the rain is likely to stay through the evening commute.

Much of it has stayed south of I-20, with the heaviest showers east of Atlanta and south of Athens, Channel 2 Action News reported. Showers in the metro area are light to moderate and are expected to stay that way until about 7 p.m.

A cold front heading toward North Georgia is going to bring drier air, clearing the showers that have been with us for much of the week, according to Channel 2.

“The end to the rain and the return of some sunshine (are) in sight,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

Expect that clearing to happen overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday.

In the meantime, showers and storms are expected to continue through the evening commute, especially in Atlanta and south of the city.

“We’ll see possibly a little bit of flooding, too, as these downpours move on through,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

The National Weather Service issued a significant weather advisory for Carroll, Coweta, Harris, Heard, Meriwether and Troup counties. Those areas could get temporary flooding, 40-mph winds, lightning and heavy rain through 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Flood warnings are also in effect for Floyd and Whitfield counties through early Wednesday.

Currently, the temperature is 74 degrees in Atlanta. Temps are expected to climb back into the 80s by Thursday and remain there through the weekend.
