DeKalb County School District officials said that a shotgun was found at Lithonia Middle School just before classes ended Tuesday.

District officials said in a statement that the shotgun, described as “inoperable,” was found in the ceiling tile of a boy’s bathroom. Nothing was said on who brought the weapon to campus or how officials knew to look in the ceiling.

“As with all matters of student/teacher safety, we take this incident very seriously and have acted accordingly,” the district said in a statement. “No students or staff were in danger at any time.”
