Transitional design creates warmth in Buckhead high-rise condo

Jeffrey Taylor Johnson's Atlanta dining room serves up dinner and a spectacular view whenever guests gather. The 1,834-square-foot high-rise condo has an open floor plan, which meant Johnson's furnishings needed a cohesive style. The round table and six chairs, all from RH, are consistent with the transitional interior design throughout the unit.

Jeffrey Taylor Johnson didn’t let the lack of a fireplace keep him from creating a wall that felt like a stacked-stone hearth in his Atlanta condo.

He added a stone wall as an organic element that warms up the interiors of his open living room in the high-rise condo.

“Since I don’t have a fireplace, I just created a wall of stone to mimic a fireplace,” he said.

The living room provides Midtown and downtown Atlanta views, which captures the attention of guests.

“When people come in, the first thing they see is that view through the floor-to-ceiling windows,” he said. “At dusk, you see the city and the bronze colors off the glass towers. It’s really beautiful.”

Interior design style: Transitional

Favorite interior design elements: Lighting and accessories, such as a chandelier over the dining table that reminded him of a Dale Chihuly glass sculpture, and Asian-themed accessories from showrooms at AmericasMart. He also uses pops of orange and red in rooms through furniture and accessories.

Favorite artwork: Horse paintings by late Atlanta artist James McLaughlin Way

Favorite outdoor elements: The balcony and Peachtree Street location. "When you're on Peachtree, your Uber is always one minute away," he said.

Decor tip: Keep a cohesive design style, such as modern, transitional or traditional, when you have a condo with an open floor plan. You can draw from other styles, such as Asian, in your accessories.
