New principals have been named for Mt. Olive and Spalding Drive Charter elementary schools in Fulton County.
At a meeting Tuesday, school board members named Mari Early the new principal for Mt. Olive, while Lynn Johnson was appointed principal at Spalding for the next school year.
Currently the principal of Harriet Tubman Elementary School, Early will temporarily move the operations of Mt. Olive from its current site in East Point to a new facility being built in College Park.
During the 2014-2015 school year, while Mt. Olive is temporarily relocated, its existing building will be torn down and a new school built in its place. Once the new Mt. Olive opens in August 2015 in its original East Point location, the school will be renamed.
Johnson, currently principal of Mimosa Elementary School, replaces Christine Young, who retired earlier this year.
Johnson has served as Mimosa’s principal since 2010 and before that was the school’s assistant principal for five years. She previously was a teacher at Manning Oaks Elementary School and also at schools in Cobb County and Ohio.
