A Fulton County man was arrested after his 69-year-old father was shot multiple times and killed Thursday inside a Johns Creek home.

Johns Creek police found the body of Jim Gregory Painter when they responded to a call about a person shot on Johns Creek Court just before 8 p.m. When they arrived, they encountered the victim’s son, 40-year-old Gregory William Painter, and detained him outside the home.

The victim’s wife was also inside the house at the time of the shooting, but she was not injured, according to police. After an investigation, Painter was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and murder.

“It is early in the investigation and detectives are trying to determine the motive and facts surrounding the case,” police spokesman Capt. Todd Hood said in a news release.

Painter is being held in the Fulton County Jail without bond.
