After poll manager oversleeps, judge orders Cobb precinct to stay open past 7 p.m.

A Cobb County precinct will remain open until 7:20 p.m. Tuesday due to a poll manager arriving late to open the site to voters.

Superior Court Judge Robert D. Leonard II signed an order Tuesday afternoon for the polling place at Sope Creek Elementary School at 3320 Paper Mill Road in Marietta to stay open 20 minutes later because it opened 20 minutes late.

Cobb Elections Director Janine Eveler said the poll manager had overslept.

Voters who are in line before 7:20 p.m. will be allowed to vote. However, Eveler said anyone who arrives between 7 and 7:20 p.m. must use a provisional ballot, which she said is federal law.

In federal elections only, if the polling place is kept open after 7 p.m. because of a court order, anyone arriving after 7 p.m. must vote by provisional ballot. If the voter is are eligible to vote and the order stands, their vote will be counted.
