Temperatures to fall throughout Sunday afternoon

Metro Atlanta temperatures will continue to fall as rain moves out and a cold front moves south over the state, meteorologists say.

Spring-like weather Sunday morning cooled quickly while rain fell through the afternoon, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

“Temperatures today are going backwards,” Monahan said. “It’s going to get cold this afternoon.”

Temperatures in Atlanta were in the low 70s Sunday morning and in the 40s by sunset.

Temperatures just after 5 p.m. were 42 degrees in Atlanta, 38 degrees in Blairsville and 48 degrees in Griffin. To the south, Eatonton was at 63 degrees as the cold front moved southeast.

“The front will sit just to the south Monday and Tuesday, and will be close enough for a 10 to 20 percent rain chance -- mainly south -- each day,” Monahan said.

Monahan said the next chance of widespread rain moves in on Thursday.
