Authorities launched an investigation Monday after a 3-month-old boy was taken to a hospital in Arkansas with bruises on his face and body and what appeared to be super glue around his mouth.
Doctors at the Great River Medical Center in Blytheville told police that the boy had injuries consistent with abuse. Hospital staff noticed bruising and swelling on the left side of his face and bruising to both his arms and legs. He also had what appeared to be dried blood around his nose and what appeared to be super glue around his mouth, police said.
The child was taken to the hospital by Charity Little, a woman who said the boy’s mother often leaves the child with her for long periods of time. She told authorities that Nedra Gargus picked up her son on March 31 and took him to Kennett, Missouri.
Little told police that she later got a call from Gargus’ sister, Teegan Gargus, telling her that she needed to come and check on the child. She drove to Kennett and met with Teegan Gargus, who took her to meet the baby at another home, police said.
She found the boy in the care of another juvenile, according to authorities.
After seeing the boy’s condition, Little took the baby to Great River Medical for treatment. Nedra Gargus said she was on her way to the hospital, but never arrived.
Doctors determined that the child had a fractured skull and several fractured ribs. He was taken to LeBonhuer Children's Hospital in Memphis for treatment.
Police in Bytheville and Kennett are investigating the case.
