Clark Atlanta

Record: 2-2 (2-1 SIAC)

Next game: vs. Stillman (0-4, 0-4), 1:30 p.m. Saturday

QB Ronald Thompson threw for 161 yards and a touchdown and ran for a touchdown in a 35-19 loss to Arkansas Pine Bluff. Clark trailed just 14-13 until the final play of the third quarter. ... Stillman should be just what the doctor ordered. It has given up 35 points or more in each of its four games and twice failed to score a touchdown.

Albany State

Record: 4-0 (3-0 SIAC)

Next game: vs. Lane (0-4, 0-3), 7 p.m. Saturday

RB Kareem Hess ran for 76 yards and a touchdown on just three carries in last week's 28-14 win over Savannah State. LB Ernest Seay had 10 tackles, including six solos. ... OL Norris Byrd graded out at 91 percent en route to being named SIAC offensive lineman of the week. He was an anchor on the ASU offensive line while the Golden Rams ran up 465 yards of total offense, including 291 rushing and 174 passing yards.

Valdosta State

Record: 3-1 (1-1 GSC)

Next game: vs. Ouachita Baptist (3-1, 1-1), 3 p.m. Saturday

Ouachita Baptist beat Valdosta State last year for the first time since VSU joined the GSC in 2001. The Blazers will not forget that, but revenge alone won't get the job done. OBU is averaging an impressive 44 points and 458.8 yards per game, 177.5 of that on the ground and 281.2 through the air. Meanwhile, the defense is surrendering 23.5 points and 306.5 yards per game. ... Valdosta's Stevie Harden has five interceptions in four games and his 148 return yards are the most by a Blazer since Sherard Reynolds in 2007.. The school interception record is nine.

West Georgia

Record: 2-2 (1-1 GSC)

Next game: vs. Southern Arkansas (0-4), 2 p.m. Saturday

West Alabama handled West Georgia last week 28-7 but the Wolves tied a school record in the second quarter with a 13-play, 99-yard drive that finished with a seven-yard touchdown strike from senior QB Brandon Behenna (East Coweta) to senior WR George Summerset (Salem). ... The last time West Georgia was at or above .500 heading into Homecoming was in 2005.

Morehouse

Record: 5-0 (4-0 SIAC)

Next game: vs. Tuskegee (3-1, 2-1) 2 p.m., Oct. 9

Morehouse is ranked No. 18 in this week's Division II poll. The Maroon Tigers are off to their best start since 1935. ... Once again, DL Derrin Nettles is the SIAC defensive player of the week. He recorded seven tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble against Lincoln. Somehow, RB David Carter was not the offensive player of the week, despite rushing for 211 yards rushing on 20 carries. He averaged 10.6 yards per carry and his 211 yards was the fourth high game in Morehouse history.

Georgia Southern

Record: 3-1 (1-0 Southern Conference)

Next game: vs. Wofford (2-1) 6.p.m, Oct. 9

The Eagles posted 508 yards of offense last week (406 on the ground) in a 38-21 win over No. 10 ranked Elon. ... FB Lee Banks ran for 121 yards on 25 carries. The senior had run for only eight yards in his career before Saturday. ... QB Jaybo Shaw (Flowery Branch) ran for two touchdowns. ... Junior CB Laron Scott was named the Southern Conference's defensive player of the week for his six-tackle, one-interception effort. He returned the interception for a touchdown.
