Donta Evans, the recruit who is famous for announcing his college decision with cakes rather than baseball caps, talked about his recruiting after Archer High School’s season-opener.

Evans’ announcement that he was taking his talents to Ole Miss on Aug. 2, was done in one of the most unique ways we have ever seen. and involved delicious food. Luckily, Evans let us know the thought process behind his announcement.

“My aunt, she likes to do things big, man, so she was like ‘we should have a cake for all your top fives schools,’ so she went with it and I said ‘you know what? I’m just going to be the guy who says a few words and announce what school I’m going to and you get the party stuff ready, man.'”

Now that he has had time to reflect on his decision, however, does he still feel the same way?

“I’m still 100 percent Ole Miss, man,” Evans told the AJC. “I talked to coach Womack before the game, and coach Freeze and they were like ‘make sure you have a good game tonight, don’t get too serious, just fly around and have fun.'”

Although Evans is solidly committed to the Rebels, he let slip which schools were still pursuing him the hardest.

“Mainly Arkansas, Auburn and Kentucky, and also Mizzou, so my top five are still my top five, but my number one is Ole Miss and I’m committed to Ole Miss.”

So what would it take for any school to steal the 6-foot-1, 230-pound linebacker?

“I couldn’t tell you that until it comes along, but right now I’m all Ole Miss and that’s who I’m sticking with.”

It sounds like Evans is happy with his decision and ready to get back onto the field for the upcoming season.

“I’m just thankful for the offers that I have and the schools that are looking at me now, it’s been a long process, not too long, but it feels long. I’m just thankful to have what I have right now.”

Evans is a 3-star and is rated as the state’s No. 51 prospect.
