Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook broke Oscar Robertson's NBA record of 41 triple-doubles in a single season Sunday. Robertson held the record since the 1961-62 season.
Westbrook secured his 42nd triple-double of the season Sunday in the fourth quarter of the Thunder’s 106-105 victory over the Denver Nuggets.
Robertson said he hoped Westbrook breaks his record and believes Russell deserves this year's NBA MVP award.
With the triple-double, Westbrook also surpassed Wilt Chamberlain on the NBA career triple-doubles list. He claimed sole possession of third place with 79 total.
