Augusta National Golf Club purchased land from the neighboring Augusta Country Club for a possible expansion of the 13th hole, according to The Augusta Chronicle.
The land purchased is reportedly where Augusta Country Club’s par-5 eighth green is located on the side of Rae’s Creek. The property also extends to the par-4 ninth hole.
The Augusta Chronicle reported a letter from Augusta Country Club President Jay B. Forrester was sent to club members on Friday. The letter said the purchased land which had been discussed for months will “improve” the golf course and the financial standing of Augusta National Golf Club.
“The Board of Governors is pleased to confirm that we have reached an agreement with our friends and neighbors at Augusta National Golf Club for its purchase of property at our northwest boundary,” Forrester’s letter read.
The purchase price was not revealed in the letter to club members, but Augusta National will cover all costs of construction for the renovated parts of Donald Ross course near Rae’s Creek, according to the Augusta Chronicle.
Masters Tournament and Augusta National Golf Club chairman Billy Payne has not commented on the reported purchase.
