Kennesaw State secured its first win of the season Thursday night, beating Tennessee Tech 49-10 in Cookeville, Tenn.

Although quarterback Chandler Burks finished the game with 91 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, Kennesaw State running back Darnell Holland was responsible for the play of the game.

On the first play of the second half, Holland scored on a 75-yard touchdown run— the first of three Owl touchdowns in the third quarter.

The Owls returned to a run-heavy offensive scheme Thursday, totaling 507 yards on the ground after featuring a more balanced offensive attack of 201 passing yards and 181 rushing yards in their season opener against Georgia State.

Kennesaw State fell to Georgia State, the program’s first FBS opponent, on Aug. 30 after the Panthers rallied late and scored the game-winning touchdown with less than one minute on the clock.

The Owls threw the ball only three times in Thursday’s win, with Burks and backup quarterback Tommy Bryant completing a total of two for 45 yards.

The Owls (1-1) return to action Sept. 15 for their home opener against Alabama State at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
