Georgia State punter Brandon Wright was named one of 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award, presented to college football’s most outstanding punter.

Wright is the first Georgia State player to be a semifinalist for any major college football award. The punter ranks third in the nation in gross and net punting, averaging 48.6 yards a punt and a net of 43.12 yards.

The redshirt junior earned a scholarship prior to this season after entering Georgia State as a walk-on. His progression over three seasons places him as the current career punting average leader with a 43.57 yard average, tracking to break the current record of 42.84 yards held by former Panther and New Orleans Saints kicker Wil Lutz.

A national voting body consisting of FBS sports information directors, national media, and former Ray Guy Award winners will decide three finalists who will be announced Tuesday. The winner of the Ray Guy Award will be announced on Dec. 6, at the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
