Steelers LB Ryan Shazier plans to play, WR Antonio Brown misses practice

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier thinks that being scheduled for Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals, rather than a standard Sunday game, may be just what it takes for him to get back on the field.

“Steelers LB Ryan Shazier said his ‘plan’ is to play Monday night vs the Bengals,” wrote Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network. “He hopes to be able to practice tomorrow. ‘The extra day helps,’ he said.”

Shazier has an ankle injury. It’s not expected to be a long-term issues. At the same time, he doesn’t want to rush back and make it worse. Ankle injuries are notorious for sticking around when they’re further aggravated after they seemed to have healed. He’s best off to rest up as much as possible and make sure it’s really better before he returns.

The Steelers were also missing superstar Antonio Brown, though the reason why was unclear.

“Antonio Brown was not at Steelers practice today,” Kinkhabwala added. “We’ll have an official reason when the injury report comes out.”

We don’t yet know what caused Brown to miss practice, and it could be nothing. If it was serious, odds are the reports would already be out. However, it will be worth watching his progress to see if the Bengals have to worry about facing the NFL’s best wideout.
