Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has become both a pivotal part of the receiver rotation and the creative genius behind some of the NFL’s best touchdown celebrations in his rookie season.
On his own touchdowns (he’s scored 4) and on teammates’ touchdowns, Smith-Schuster has been the master of ceremonies. And the Steelers are apparently just getting started.
The team discusses ideas throughout the week and Smith-Schuster has a list of their celebration possibilities stored on his iPhone. And they’re looking to take advantage of relaxed celebration rules to continue showing their personalities.
“This is how I can relate to the fans,” Smith-Schuster said according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. “Me being a 20-year-old, the fact the NFL is allowing us to celebrate is the best thing ever. Now that you can do with teammates … everyone wins.”
As the youngest player in the NFL, Smith-Schuster brings a youthful exuberance that the offense has rallied around. He just got his driver’s license for the first time last week after spending his first six months in Pittsburgh using a bicycle as his primary mode of transportation.
That energy has translated directly into some of the most jovial celebrations we’ve ever seen, including hide-and-seek, the bench press, the dice game and a Dragon Ball Z reference. And it looks like it’ll churn out much, much more before it’s all said and done.
