Report: Kyle Van Noy’s injury appears minor

New England Patriots outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy went down with a calf injury against the Miami Dolphins. The good news on Monday is that it doesn’t look like it’s too serious, so he should return soon.

“Kyle Van Noy suffered a minor calf injury yesterday, per source,” wrote Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald. “Too early to know if he’ll be ready for Sunday, but the absence isn’t expected to linger beyond that if he does have to sit out.”

“This is also what it appeared to be from TV,” added Mike Petraglia of CLNS Media. “So, good sign for Van Noy. Has been one of the most consistent players on [defense] this season, hands down.”

The 9-2 Patriots play the 6-5 Buffalo Bills on Sunday. When the Bills were giving up over 100 points in two weeks, this looked like an easy win, but they got stingy on Sunday and only gave up 10 in a win over the Kansas City Chiefs. They could give the Patriots more trouble than anticipated, and they are technically in second place in the AFC East.

Van Noy had one sack against the Dolphins, but it was one of an impressive seven from the Patriots as a whole. After the game, coach Bill Belichick offered his thoughts on that.

“I think the score had a lot to do with that,” Belichick said, per Adam Kurkjian of The Boston Herald. “Any time you can get ahead in the game, most of the second half there’s a lot of passing, a lot of pass rush with the lead, so it gives you the opportunity to rush the passer better.”
