Patriots TE Martellus Bennett: ‘I’ll tell yall everything one day’

New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett was released by the Green Bay Packers under some unusual circumstances.

The Packers used the “Failure to Disclose Physical Condition,” designation to release him, because Bennett told the team recently that a shoulder injury was going to keep him out for the rest of the 2017 season, according to Packers News’ Ryan Wood and Tom Silverstein.

It would be reasonable for Bennett’s Packers teammates to be confused, but some were openly critical of him.

“I don’t know, it’s kind of strange,” Packers guard Lane Taylor said, via Wood and Silverstein. “I don’t know if many people have seen that situation. I don’t know what he was thinking. It wasn’t great timing. I don’t know if his shoulder wasn’t an issue; nobody really knows. That’s the weird thing about it.”

Bennett sent out two tweets on Thursday night. One NSFW tweet expressed Bennett’s displeasure with the reaction to him being released an reuniting with the Patriots. In the other tweet, he said that he will one day give his side of the story on what happened.

The Packers signed Bennett in the offseason to give quarterback Aaron Rodgers another dependable pass catching target. Bennett hashas 24 receptions for 233 yards and no touchdowns this  season.

Also, Rodgers broke the collarbone in his throwing shoulder during the Packers’ Week 6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Bennett played in the next game against the New Orleans Saints, but after the bye week he did not take the field against Detroit Lions with that shoulder injury.

The Packers ruled Bennett out for their Week 10 matchup against the Chicago Bears, before news broke that he had been released.
