Bill Belichick likes to shutdown the opponents best player. That task might be difficult without offensive tackle Marcus Cannon.
Cannon didn’t practice on Wednesday, per Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald.
The seventh-year offensive tackle injured his ankle in Week 8’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers. His ankle is apparently still affecting him after the team’s bye week.
This is not a good week for Cannon to be injured. The Patriots face arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL in Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller, making the timing of Cannon’s injury not ideal.
If Cannon is unable to play, offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle would be inserted into the starting lineup. Although, Belichick and the Patriots are hoping Cannon will be able to play Sunday night in Denver.
In other injury news, wide receiver Chris Hogan did not practice due to a shoulder injury.
On the defensive side, defensive tackle Malcom Brown was absent with an ankle injury of his own.
