The New England Patriots are once again going to be without wide receiver Chris Hogan and tackle Marcus Cannon.
“Unsurprisingly, wide receiver Chris Hogan [shoulder] and right tackle Marcus Cannon [ankle] missed practice today and won’t play Sunday when the Patriots visit the Bills,” reported Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald. “Neither has practiced since Week 8, and it became obvious yesterday that they weren’t ready to return. By missing the full week of practice, that solidifies it. Backup right tackle LaAdrian Waddle [sprained ankle] was present for the second consecutive practice, but it would be a surprise to the team if he recovered quickly enough to play Sunday, according to a source.”
Losing Hogan does hurt because he was off to a hot start with Julian Edelman gone for the season. In just eight games, Hogan had 438 yards and 5 touchdowns. That was already more touchdowns than he’s ever scored in one season before – his previous career-high was four, set in 2014 and again in 2016 – and his third-highest yards total. If he had kept up that pace, he would have hit a career-high 876 yards and shattered his TD mark with 10 on the year.
The Patriots have continued to win without him. While it would have been poetic to see him go in and help get a win against his old team, the Patriots can likely beat the Bills without him and want to focus on getting him healthy for the future.
