Denver Broncos pass rusher Von Miller is the highest-paid defender in the NFL. In Super Bowl 50, he recorded multiple strip sacks and, in many ways, won the game on his own. He’s an elite defender and on pace to become one of the best pass rushers in NFL history.
That’s what makes what Eagles tackle Lane Johnson did to him so thoroughly embarrassing.
The Broncos struggled mightily against the Eagles, giving up 51 points. This is a team that prides itself on defense, getting absolutely slaughtered by second-year quarterback Carson Wentz and company. But Wentz had plenty of help. Watch how Johnson just tossed Miller aside like he’s some sort of practice squad scrub.

That’s brutal. In a lot of ways, nothing sums up the beat-down the Broncos received much better.
That said, it doesn’t necessarily sum up Miller’s day. He had 8 tackles, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble. If the Broncos had won, those stats would be pointed at as a large reason why. The team around Miller was getting shredded, and he was certainly part of that, but it was by no means his fault alone.
Still, it’s becoming clear that having the best player at one position can’t wash out problems elsewhere on the roster. Miller’s 8 sacks rank him 7 th in the NFL, ahead of Kansas City Chiefs star Justin Houston [7.5 sacks], but the Broncos are 3-5 and dead last in the AFC West.
