In order to sign tight end Martellus Bennett, the New England Patriots had to release defensive end Geneo Grissom.
On Saturday, the Patriots announced that they signed Grissom to the practice squad, and released offensive lineman Anthony Fabiano.
The Patriots selected Grissom in third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He has 1 sack in three seasons, and has been used primarily as a contributor on special teams. He has bounced between their active roster and practice squad throughout his three years in the NFL.
Fabiano was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2016 by the Cleveland Browns. He has bounced around the league since then, and was signed to the Patriots practice squad in October.
On Thursday, the Patriots claimed Bennett off of waivers. He was released by the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday, using the “Failure to Disclose Injury,” designation.
Bennett played for the Patriots in 2016, catching 55 passes for 701 yards and 7 touchdowns.
