Giants put CB Janoris Jenkins on injured reserve

A day after benching quarterback Eli Manning, the Giants found out they won’t have cornerback Janoris Jenkins for the rest of the year, either.

“CB Janoris Jenkins is being placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury, per source,” wrote ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. “His season is over.”

It’s been an issue for a bit, and it looks like Jenkins finally decided it was time to give it the attention it deserves.

“Giants’ CB Janoris Jenkins is undergoing ankle surgery today, per source,” noted ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “Ankle has hindered him for two months.”

The natural question that some are asking is if the Giants are fully tanking for the 2018 NFL Draft. They just got their second win of the season, over the Kansas City Chiefs, on Nov. 19. On the 23 rd, they lost to the Washington Redskins to push them to 2-9 on the year. Now that they’re promptly sitting down two of their star players, are they hoping not to win again?

That could be, but the reality is that the focus has also just shifted to the future. That doesn’t mean they’re tanking. Manning is being benched because they need to look at the younger quarterbacks and see what they have. Jenkins, according to Schefter, has been trying to fight through this for months. With the shift in mentality in the locker room, there’s no reason to keep fighting it. Heading to surgery and IR now gives him the best chance to be 100 percent in 2018.
