Former Patriots defensive back Dave Cloutier has died.
Cloutier passed away at his home in Palm Coast, Florida on Nov. 6, the Patriots announced. He was 78 years old.
Cloutier was drafted in the 18th round by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1962 NFL Draft. However, he signed to play with the AFL’s Buffalo Bills. After a brief stint in Buffalo and a year away from football, Cloutier signed with the Boston Patriots in 1964. He played in 12 of the team’s 14 games in 1964 as a defensive back and punt returner.
The Maine native is the first player to player from the state to play on the Patriots. Before playing professionally, Cloutier starred at University of Maine. He is in the University of Maine Hall of Fame and the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.
