About 32 minutes before the scheduled 8:20 p.m. kickoff of the NFL season opener, Lincoln Financial Field was cleared after the National Weather Service issued a “severe conditions” warning on Thursday.
The Eagles and the Falcons both left the field and a message was posted on the scoreboard telling the festive pre-game crowd to seek cover in the concourses.
Weather is expected to clear about 8:30 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. is slated to be the new starting time. But that time could be pushed back depending on the storm.
Heavy rain was falling and lightning was seen in the metro area.
